A new lease on life

Hi there! It has been a long while. Allow me to reintroduce myself.

My name is Laura. I’m a writer and musician living in Rose City USA: Portland, Oregon. I was born in rural Sweden and lived most of my life in Seattle, Washington.

When I was laid off from my longtime job and my house was sold within a week during the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, I found myself with no job, no home, and nothing keeping me in Seattle anymore. So I gathered up my courage, my belongings and my two small dogs Moody and Gizmo (RIP) and, knowing barely another soul, moved in with a dear friend in Portland.

It’s been nearly two years since then, and so much has changed. I changed my lifestyle, got sober, and I met Ryan, the love of my life. I have also dealt with a significant amount of grief these past two years. Major illness in my family, the unsolved disappearance of one of my closest friends, and the death of my beloved dog Gizmo, have all been difficult things to sit with.

But I am proud to say that for almost five months, I haven’t had a drink. I’ve been committed to changing my life, for my own good and the good of those around me.

And now, I’m preparing to take another brave plunge into the unknown:

In October, I will be leaving the Northwest and moving with Ryan back to his hometown:
San Diego, California

The purpose of this blog is mostly as a continuous showcase of my love for good friends, good food, animals, music and art, travel, literature, car and motorcycle culture, fashion, and most of all: the two cultures I was blessed to be born into.

Cowgirls and Vikings

Harley-riding Hippies and Disco Dancing Queens

Norse.

Western.
